FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

General

Q. How do I determine which product I need?
A. Go to the search bar on this website. And type your unit in.  Please note that we do not make accessories for all applications

Q. Will I need to drill holes in my machine to install your products?
A. Most products mount onto the machine using existing bolts. A few products require some drilling. These come with templates to locate the holes precisely.

Q. How long does your warranty last?
A. All products are warranted for one year. Please read the warranty statement in the retail price list.

Hard Top Cabs

Q. How tall are your hardtop cabs?
A. Our Hard Top cabs are designed to be about 42” from the depressed (as sitting in) seat to the
top. Allow extra room for tire chains and / or over size tires.

Q. How long does it take to install a Hard Top?
A. Most Hard Tops can be installed in about 2 – 3 hours.

Q. How can I get my doors to line up with the latches?
A. Some cabs have clamp on feet (brackets) that clamp onto the step plates of tractors the doors on these cabs can be adjusted by loosening the clamps and moving them forwards or back to adjust the latch up or down. Doors on other cabs can be aligned by loosening the cab frame and hinge bolts, latching both doors and re-tightening the bolts. Make sure that the latch plates on the rear posts are facing forward with the notch to the outside.

Q. I don’t see any cabs listed for my machine. Do you have anything that I could modify to fit my machine?
A. Original cabs are designed to fit specific brands and models of machines. Modifying a cab to fit a machine that it was not designed for can compromise safe operation by interfering with clutch /brake pedals, steering controls, PTO and lift levers etc. Also carbon monoxide (exhaust fumes) can enter the cab in unauthorized cab applications causing serious injury or death. Original Tractor Cab Co. will not recommend nor warrant such applications.

Q. Can I buy parts to convert a cab that I have to fit a different tractor?
A. This is not feasible, as it would require over 85% of the parts to convert a hard top to a different machine. The cost involve for the parts would exceed the cost of a new cab.

Q. How can I prevent frost / fog formation in my cab windows?
A. If you keep your machine in a heated garage pull it out into the cold air and wait a couple of minutes until the inside of the cab cools off this should eliminate the problem in most cases. In extreme cold see the question below.

Q. Can products such as Rain-X be used to prevent frost / fog formation on the windows?
A. Yes, however it must be applied very carefully with a VERY CLEAN cotton cloth so as not to scratch or dent the plastic.

Q. There are gaps in some places that allow air to enter the cab. Can I seal these up?
A. No, the gaps should not be sealed up for a couple of reasons. These are unheated cabs. If they are totally sealed it is difficult to keep the windows from fogging over despite the above measures. On some cab models there are gaps and / or vents built into the cab that perform the function of preventing carbon monoxide (exhaust fumes) from building up inside the cab. If the cab is sealed up it could cause serious injury or death from carbon monoxide poisoning..

Q. Why is the windshield too short to snap around the front posts?
A. Most likely the top frame has been installed backwards. When the top frame is installed properly the welded tabs at the rear of the frame will be in the corners. The tabs welded to the front of the top frame will be about 7” in from the corner. Keep in mind the tall end of the plastic top is the front.

Q. Does the cab allow the hood to be opened for servicing the engine?
A. Yes, an opening in the center of the front panel allows the hood to opened.

Walk Behind Snow Blower Cabs

Q. How tall is the cab?
A. These cabs are designed to be about 6” 6” with the skid shoes on the header at the mid height position (bolts centered in the slots).

Q. Why doesn’t the cover fit very well?
A. The Rear Vertical Bow must be at a 90-degree angle to the Horizontal Bow as viewed from the side for the cover to fit properly. With the frame bolts snug but not tight grab the front of the Horizontal Bow. Next grab the top of the Rear Vertical Bow and push forward to bring the bows to 90-degrees. Tighten the bolts and install the cover.

Q. How long does it take to install the cab?
A. Most models can be installed in 1 hour or less.

Sun Shades

Q. How tall is the shade?
A. Our Sun Shades are designed to be about 42” from the depressed (as sitting in) seat to the top.

Q. How hard is it to remove the Sun Shade for mowing under low objects?
A. The Sun Shade receivers (brackets) are bolted to the machine using existing bolts in most applications (no drilling required). The supporting framework for the top slips in and out of the receivers without tools or fasteners.

Q. How long does it take to install the Sun Shade?
A. Most Sun Shades can be installed in about 1 hour or less.

Q. Can I get just the receivers (brackets) to mount my Sun Shade on a different mower?
A. In some cases this is possible we use different posts and braces on some models that make it impractical to convert due to the number of parts required.

Please call to determine this possibility.
